
The Tennessee Volunteers - Helping Tennessee Veterans Helps Tennessee!
Tennessee's nickname of the Volunteer State dates back to the war if 1812 when a group of volunteers under General Andrew Jackson fought so valiantly at the battle of New Orleans.
In 1836 a small group of volunteers went with David Crockett to Texas and gave their lives to help a group struggling against the Mexican Army.
Whenever there is a group that is in need of assistance, The Tennessee Volunteers are there. This is where we get the name The Tennessee Volunteers.
I have just had the privilege of serving an internship with a group of TN students from all over the state of Tennessee, where I served in the office of Senator Rusty Crowe (R ) third district and was honored with two Senate Joint Resolutions and appointed a Colonel Aid de Camp by the Governor.
There were six veterans in the group, of which I am one. We had a diverse group of schools and interests as well as military service. We had veterans from Iraq, Desert Storm, Bosnia and I served during Vietnam. We decided to come up with a way to leave a tribute for Tennessee that would be ongoing and be carried on by the veterans who come after us each year, with the six of us as founding members.
